Hidden Horsham - Bell Tower
This is a curious bell tower or cupola located a on the Clockhouse building in Blackhorse Way in Horsham, directly above the Clockhouse Podiatry clinic. The bell is still there with a weather vane on top. The tower is visible from the ground or from the nearby car park. The poor quality paintwork adds a certain quality to it although it would benefit from some maintenance. Click on the image for the full size photo. Clicking on the thumbnail to the right will reveal the whole building The clockhouse 'belonged' to Newells Manor opposite, recently the RSPCA headquarters, now flats. It was formerly the groom's quarters and coach house for the stable block to the left of the main picture, now the dentist surgery. Note the two coach entrances now bricked up except for doorways.
The photograph below shows the view towards Chart & Lawrence onto the Carfax taken from a nearby vantage point. Nowadays the former Chart and Lawrence site is occupied by the bookshop Waterstones after its former incarnations of Hammicks then Ottakars ![]() Reproduced courtesy of The Francis Frith Collection.
