Hidden Horsham, Horsham Workhouse Infirmary

Horsham Workhouse Infirmary

The Horsham Workhouse Infirmary is just off the Crawley Road. It was designed by CH Burstow and built in 1899 by the 'Guardians of the Horsham Union' to care for residents in the neighbouring Horsham Union Workhouse

The main view shows the infirmary from the rear whereas the thumbnail will display a view of the same building from the front

The foundation stone names the guardians and goes on to reveal that the builders were the Potter Bros of Horsham

This building replaced the 65 bed infirmary started in 1865 and completed a year later, some 26 years before the public Horsham hospital was proposed. It was at this time the infirmary became a seperate establishment from the workhouse

The infirmary shares its history with the workhouse and was converted to apartments in 1990
