Horsham Police Station
|
The Horsham Police Station is just off the Hurst Road. It is the third location for the Police Station in Horsham. Between 1894 and 1973 it was in Barttelot Road and that building is still in use today as offices
The reason for featuring this building is the lamp outside, brought from the Barttelot Road site. It is unusual because it is red, not the traditional blue. It is thought that this is because the Barttelot Road station was the Sussex Police Headquarters prior to it moving to Lewes. The Chief Constable sought to differentiate the station from others by having the red light
The lamp is now mounted centrally on the front of the building. Click on the thumbnails to see the full image of the old lamp from the left and right hand sides. If you look carefully you will see that the gas lamp has been removed and it now has a low energy bulb installed
